The January-February issue of NE Home Magazine featured “Five Questions: Bill Bivova”. In the piece Bill explains the challenges and rewards of designing and building staircases. Written by Robert Kiener and photography by John Soares, Bill discusses how AutoCAD and CNC machines have changed the industry making it easier to produce certain parts.  However, the intricate craftsmanship is still required on many parts, especially creating wreathed handrails.  A block of wood is whittled away slowly to create a handrail that is truly a piece of art in the home.  As Bill states, “we can duplicate the great majestic stairways of a century ago and, thanks to today’s materials, we can make them even more accurate and more durable”.
